To improve the lives of the economically disadvantaged
I've been to Honduras. I don't expect many of you would even know where it is on the map. It's below Guatamala. Honduras is the most economically disadvataged country of the Americas. Honduras has many natural resources and little "gems" like the island of Roatan. My goal is to purchase (or build) a Fishing and Diving, "Bed & Breckfast" style resort on the island. This is completely possible. The government will assist all the way. Roatan hosts the 2nd largest coral reef in the world. It is a Scuba Diver's paradise.
I want to form a co-op of investors / owners. We (as in you and I as owners) would personally operate the resort year-round. Think like spending your 2 weeks vacation at the resort, working it at the same time you vacation.
The profits from the business, would go to support the efforts to improve the lives of those on the mainland.
Life is harsh over there. Imagine you go to work all day, performing hard labor. You earn $2.00. Many things over there cost the same as here. You take your $2.00 and buy a pound of rice and a pound beans for $1.25. That leaves you with $.75 cents left over and you have a family to feed. They are hard working, able bodied people. They are not looking for charity, but a chance to give their families a better life.
Forget about...
Coffee, Ice Cream, Shampoo, Conditioner, Nail polish, Colone, soda, fresh bread, fried chicken, new shoes, a movie ticket, whatever it is...just think of what it's like to have one or two sets of cloths. You live in a hut. This is very common outside the cities. No electricity, no running water, no TV, no DVD's, no Ipods, no Disneyland, no entertainment of any kind. Nothing. No medical care, no dentist. Nothing.
Water wells could be drilled. Solar panels could be installed to heat the water and bring electricity to the "home". Families could "live" instead of just "survive". Locals could work at the resort and be paid more than $2.00 a day. We could sponsor the education of the kids back in our areas of operation. The government only provides a 6th grade education and then your on your own.
Just so you'll know, I once saw a waterfront Bed & Breckfast that would house 9 guests and the staff. The selling price for this lot was $110,000.00. The place was perfect.
I know enough to say I can't do something like this alone. I am blessed to be living in the greatest country in the world, flaws and all. I believe we who live here are ment to share our blessings with others and if we don't we will be heald accountable one way or another.
Any like minded people out there?
